3. Katy Perry
The American singer was named Kathryn Elizabeth Hudson until changing her name before releasing her second album. Her debut studio album was released under the name Katy Hudson and was highly unsuccessful. After her record company went under the singer moved to Los Angeles she signed with Capitol Records in 2007 after being dropped from The Island Def Jam Music Group.
Just one year after signing with Capitol Perry dropped the smash hit single “I Kissed a Girl” which raised quite the stir with homosexual connotations in the song’s themes. Two years later she released her third and uber popular album Teenage Dream and dropped the chart-topping singles “California Gurls”, “Teenage Dream”, “Firework”, “Last Friday Night”, and “E.T.”. She was of the very first singers to have two separate videos on Vevo with over one billion views. Both “Roar” with it’s amazingly empowering message and “Dark Horse” with it’s fabulously dance worthy beat reached one billion views on the video sharing site.
