3. 1985 Apartment, Trump Tower, New York
This blast from the past may seem opulent still, but, boy, if it isn’t easier on the eyes than what Donald and Melania call a home these days. With its fair share of gold and luxurious natural stone accents, this Art Deco extravaganza is part 80s party animal’s den, part conservatory.
The 7-bedroom home furnished with Donghia Furniture, Stark carpets, and Brunschwig & Fils-upholstered satin chairs looks overly decorated but at least contemporary. The foyer is characterized by the curving gold staircase that connects the apartment’s various levels, but the golden accents are fairly restrained throughout the interior.
The abundance of greenery and play of light and shadow make it look more interesting, although there’s definitely more color than many could handle in decor.
