13. Ron “Pigpen” McKernan
Ever heard of the incredibly influential band The Grateful Dead? Well Ron McKernan is known for adding that touch of Blues element to the band. McKernan was a great talent and known as a great friend, but he was also troubled. McKernan had a problem with alcohol abuse, which began when he was only a teenager. In 1970, at the young age of 24 he was diagnosed with liver damage. When he was forced to quit touring, the band sadly went off without him. He passed away in 1973 at the age of 27 from severe cirrhosis of the liver and a gastrointestinal hemorrhage.
