8. Star Trek Beyond
J.J. Abrams did a great job in bringing the Star Trek movie franchise back into relevance with 2009’s Star Trek and 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness. Both movies were well-received and financially successful, however they were not as successful as the movie studio wanted them to be. Star Trek Beyond will see all the actors from the previous films reprise their roles, and this time, the hugely popular Idris Elbawill step in to play the main villain. Abrams though, was not in the director’s chair for this installment, and instead, Justin Lin (known for directing many Fast & Furious movies) was rushed in to fill the position. Combine that with the fact that the script underwent a complete rewrite right before production, and that the recently released trailer revealed a not very interesting plot, Paramount may again find themselves disappointed in the movie’s return. Luckily though, with this being the franchise’s 50th anniversary, it will likely do well; just not as well as the two movies that came before it.
