“It’s okay to hold back and protect yourself when hurt” – Nigerian lady advises couples

A Nigerian writer known as Diaryofanajiagirl on Instagram has advised couples about relationships and when to draw the line.

She stated that when you’ve been hurt by so many people and made empty promises, people find themselves holding back to protect themselves.

She added that when people don’t feel like doing certain things, she understands that it is okay to protect oneself and hold back.

In her words:

When you’ve been hurt too much and made empty promises to, you find yourself holding back to protect yourself. So when you feel like calling, you don’t. When you feel like typing, “I miss you,” you ask, “how’re you?” I understand this. It’s okay to protect yourself..for now..”

Reacting to the post, omobolaakinde wrote: “It is very ok to protect yourself. But also remember until you are completely vulnerable you cannot get the best from any relationship. I know it’s hard but you can ask God to heal you and give you a heart to love again.”

neena_9ice said: “Can be draining though. I think we as humans should learn to treat people better. It’s either you are in or out. Don’t make someone suffer from your emotional bankruptcy.”

Ellione_oma added: “One of the worst situations to be in especially when you’re an expressive person. To just shut down and say less is like torture.”
