According to the video FIFA posted on their Instagram page, they made it clear that Rashidi Yekini will never be forgotten.
”The first player to score a FIFA World Cup goal for the Super Eagles. We’ll never forget Rashidi Yekini’s passionate celebration,” FIFA said.
Rashidi Yekini died on May 4, 2012, in Ibadan days after he was taken to an unknown traditional herbal doctor by his family members who claimed that he was acting ‘insane’.
Yekini’s lawyer, Olanrewaju, also claimed that he was not aware of where the former Super Eagles star was taken to by his family.
He was part of the Super Eagles team that participated in the 1994 World Cup where he netted Nigeria’s first-ever goal in the tournament.
