Renowned Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has been apprehended and is currently under police custody, having been handcuffed and transported to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) at Panti for further investigation and potential detention.
The news of Seun Kuti‘s arrest was revealed through a video shared on Monday by Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), on his verified Twitter account.
In the video footage, Seun Kuti can be seen physically assaulting a uniformed police officer.
However, Sowore stated that Seun Kuti had fulfilled his promise to fully cooperate with the police investigation by visiting the Commissioner of Police in Lagos accompanied by his legal counsel.
Sowore wrote on Twitter, “Following his earlier visit to the @PoliceNG Commissioner in Lagos today, @realseunkuti was subsequently arrested and taken to SCIID in Panti by @PoliceNG officers. This appears to be for further investigations and a possible detention relating to his altercation with a police officer on the 3rd mainland bridge. @RealSeunKuti has indeed honored his commitment to fully cooperate with the police investigation and accordingly visited the Commissioner in Lagos alongside his lawyers.”
The arrest followed an altercation between Seun Kuti and a police officer on the 3rd Mainland Bridge last week, prompting the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, to issue the order for his arrest.
