Real Madrid’s captain, Karim Benzema, has reaffirmed his commitment to the club amidst swirling rumors of a tempting offer from Saudi Arabia.
Recent reports suggested that Benzema had informed the LaLiga giants of his desire to sign a contract with Saudi champions Al-Ittihad. However, according to Marca, the French striker has not expressed any intention to leave Madrid.
Benzema’s current contract at the Bernabeu is set to expire at the end of June. Nevertheless, it is understood that he has agreed to activate an option that extends his deal for another year.
The offer from Al-Ittihad remains on the table, with reports indicating it amounts to a staggering €400 million (£346m/$439m) over two years.
Addressing the speculation, the 35-year-old commented on Thursday, stating, “All the talk about a potential move is mere speculation originating from the Internet. And as we know, the Internet does not always reflect reality.”
