The Flying Eagles of Nigeria have booked their place in the quarter-finals of the FIFA U20 World Cup after a commanding 2-0 victory over Argentina at the San Juan Stadium on Wednesday.
Despite Argentina’s dominance in the first half, enjoying possession and displaying superior strength, the Flying Eagles held their ground and regrouped after the break.
Nigeria showcased solid defensive skills and patiently waited for counterattacks, which proved fruitful in the 61st minute when Ibrahim Muhammed expertly fired a one-time shot past the Argentine defense, giving the Flying Eagles the lead.
In extra time, Rilwanu Sarki, who entered the game in the second half, secured Nigeria’s victory with a well-placed header.
This outcome sets up a quarter-final clash for Nigeria against the winner of the Ecuador versus South Korea match.
