Temidayo Eseyin, an associate pastor with the Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel) in Ilorin, has been brought before the Kwara State High Court on allegations of defrauding Landmark University, Omu-Aran, of the sum of N19.3 million.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Eseyin on a four-count charge related to the dishonest misappropriation of funds belonging to the university.
According to the petition filed with the EFCC, Eseyin, who served as a lawyer and previously sat on the Disciplinary Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ilorin Branch, had access to Landmark University’s properties, title documents, and funds.
It was alleged that he took advantage of his position to cheat, defraud, misappropriate, and shortchange his client.
One of the specific allegations against Eseyin involved his management of a property known as the “Old Midland Building,” owned by Landmark University, situated along Emir’s/Obbo Road in Ilorin.
It was claimed that Eseyin collected rents for the property over an eight-year period but could not produce the funds when questioned. Furthermore, he was accused of attempting to sell the property without proper authorization from the university.
Eseyin pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. The EFCC requested that the court schedule a trial date and remand the defendant in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Centre until the trial.
However, Eseyin’s lawyer applied for bail, which was granted by Justice Funsho Lawal. The judge set the bail amount at N10 million, with two sureties required to provide landed property within the court’s jurisdiction. The case was adjourned to a later date, and Eseyin was remanded in the custody of the EFCC until his bail conditions are met.
