Niger State Police command has apprehended several suspects in connection with the murder of Boniface Chinanwa, a 45-year-old resident of Morocco Road, Suleja, in Suleja Local Government Area of the state.
The arrested individuals include Sunday Paul, 22, from Timber-shed, Suleja, and Bali Joshua, 33, from the Kwamba area of Suleja. However, the alleged mastermind of the crime, Zingfa Selchak, is currently evading capture.
According to a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the two detained suspects have confessed to their involvement in the crime, which includes charges of culpable homicide, conspiracy, and theft.
The police spokesperson explained that Zingfa had invited Sunday and Bali on May 17, 2023, and informed them of his intention to steal a tricycle, seeking their assistance in carrying out the act.
Zingfa then led them to a location along Kwamba road, opposite Timber-shed, instructing them to wait while he brought a tricycle rider whom he had deceitfully contracted to transport goods for him.
According to the police statement, “They jointly moved to a nearby corner with the rider pretending to start packing the goods into the tricycle. Suddenly, the said Zingfa placed a cable on the neck of the rider from the rear, tightly drawn and strangled him to death with the help of Bali, while Sunday tied the victim’s hands.”
The suspects proceeded to search the victim, stealing his phone and other valuables. Zingfa then drove the stolen tricycle to an unknown location, while Bali and Sunday abandoned the victim’s body by the roadside, where it was discovered the following morning.
The arrested suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation. Authorities are intensifying efforts to apprehend Zingfa, recover the stolen tricycle and other stolen items. The recovered evidence includes the cable used to strangle the victim, which was tied to a spanner
